What is SR22 Insurance?
SR22 Insurance By UltraCar Insurance
What is SR22 insurance? Every state requires licensed drivers who own a vehicle to carry auto liability insurance with minimum required levels of bodily injury and property damage coverage in case of accident. A driver whose license has been suspended or revoked will be required to file an SR22 insurance certificate with their state department of motor vehicles in order for their driving privileges to be reinstated during their period of license suspension.
After license reinstatement, most states require the driver to keep their SR22 insurance in effect for 1-3 years without lapse or cancellation. SR22 policies are monitored by the issuing insurance provider, and the state is notified immediately of a lapse or cancellation, resulting in repeat license suspension for the driver.
There are two types of SR22 insurance: An SR22 owner policy is for individuals who own a vehicle, and an SR22 non owner policy is for individuals who do not own a vehicle.
The states of Florida and Virginia require SR22 insurance certificates for non alcohol related motor vehicle violations and FR44 certificates for alcohol or drug related motor vehicle violations. Individuals who have a DUI or DWI conviction in Florida or Virginia will need to file an FR44 certificate in order to regain driving privileges during their period of license suspension. The liability insurance requirements for FR44 certificates is two times higher than the liability insurance requirements for SR22 certificates.
